Effective the first day of Winter quarter, all Apple MacBook laptop computers loaned by STLP will be updated as follows:
- OS Updates: All laptops will be updated to the latest version of macOS (Sequoia).
- Login Procedures: Instead of utilizing a generic username and password as in the past, students will now be prompted by a macOS setup screen to enter their own unique username and password. Should students forget their login credentials, they will need to visit an STLP office location for recovery assistance.
- Apple Account Login: Students will now be permitted to login and utilize their Apple Account.
- Pre-installed Applications: Installed applications will be limited to those that are included with macOS as well as internet browsers. Additional applications will be available for download via the Self-Service icon on the dock, Apple App Store with an Apple Account or installation by .DMG file.
- Internet Connectivity: Access to the internet is required during the macOS setup process. If students do not have internet access at home, STLP recommends completing the setup process while still on campus or by borrowing a wi-fi hotspot.
Again, these changes apply to STLP MacBook laptop computers. STLP iPads and Windows laptop computers are not impacted.
